We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer who can own the end-to-end delivery of complex data infrastructure and high-fidelity integrations.

This role is more coding- and architecture-heavy than a typical data engineering position, requiring robust bridges between internal microservices, external partner APIs, and data pipelines.

You will collaborate extensively with Data Science squads, Product, and Core Engineering partners to develop state-of-the-art solutions that drive The RealReal’s advanced data platform capabilities.

What You’ll Do EverydayDesign and develop code-driven interfaces between our data platform and internal/external services.

Take projects from requirements gathering through production deployment and proactive monitoring.

Build scalable transformations in dbt.

Design systems that balance technical excellence with business needs, focusing on reliability and long-term maintainability.

Leverage AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude) to accelerate development velocity and deliver high-quality solutions.

Partner with Engineering, Product, and Analytics teams to solve complex data challenges.

Minimum Requirements5+ years of experience in Data Engineering with a strong foundation in system design.

Ability to write production-grade, modular Python code.

Expert proficiency in SQL, complex data modeling, and BigQuery performance optimization.

Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform data stack (BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Composer, Dataflow).

Proven success building integrations with API clients and streaming platforms.

Advanced hands-on experience with dbt (incremental models, testing, project organization).

Active experience using AI coding tools to enhance productivity and code quality.

Expert command of Git, CI/CD workflows, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred RequirementsKnowledge of data design patterns such as Medallion.

Experience with Terraform/Atlantis.

EducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
