Senior Node.js Backend Engineer

Senior Node.js Backend Engineer Contract: 12 months Hours: UK/CET Rate: $300 USD per day Location: Fully Remote Overview We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take ownership of core platform services, helping evolve an existing AWS-based system into a more scalable, modular architecture.

This is a hands-on product backend role with real responsibility over performance, reliability, and system design.

What you’ll do Migrate existing serverless logic into a modular NestJS backend Build and maintain backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS Lead MySQL / Aurora performance optimisation (queries, indexing, scaling, reliability) Improve system scalability and stability across AWS infrastructure Contribute to observability (Grafana) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) Work closely with product and engineering to ship high-quality backend features Tech Stack Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript MySQL (Aurora), Redis AWS (ECS, Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront) Terraform, Grafana Must have 5+ years commercial backend experience Strong Node.js + NestJS Solid MySQL optimisation experience in production environments Deep AWS hands-on experience Comfortable using AI dev tools day-to-day (Copilot / Claude / similar)
