Backend Engineer | $55/hr Remote

Position: Software Engineer – Agentic AI / Data Cloud

Type: Contract (6 months)

Location: Remote

Commitment: 40 hrs/week with 6 hours overlap with PST

Compensation: $50–$55 per hour

Role Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance MCP tools for AI systems and data cloud environments
• Build backend tools using Python or Go for agentic AI and developer workflows
• Work with SQL and database systems to build and manage data-driven solutions
• Improve integrations and workflows for AI coding assistants and agentic developer tools
• Refactor and optimize existing systems for scalability, maintainability, and performance
• Expand testing coverage for AI-driven tools, asynchronous systems, and backend workflows
• Build APIs, CLI tools, automation workflows, and developer-focused tooling
• Convert technical concepts, blogs, and prototypes into production-ready code samples and documentation
• Develop real-world data applications to support experimentation, product R&D, and Data Cloud initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve AI-integrated systems

Requirements

• Background in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python or Go, ideally both
• Solid experience with SQL and database systems
• Prior experience working in Google3 or Google engineering environments
• Experience building or contributing to agentic AI systems and AI-assisted workflows
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, or similar tools
• Strong coding, debugging, testing, and software design skills
• Experience maintaining and refactoring scalable production codebases
• Familiarity with asynchronous systems, developer tooling, APIs, and backend integrations
• Ability to write clear technical documentation and developer-focused examples
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and system design skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote contract setup
